Currently burning “Beach Towel” by Yankee Candle. I picked up this candle from Kohl’s a couple weeks ago (It was on clearance for $0.79!). Perfect for the upcoming warm weather!Image

The votive holder is from Michael’s craft store. It was only $1 and I love it!

Weekend Project: Let There Be Light

27 Feb

So our living room was a little…erm…lacking in an overhead light fixture, and we weren’t a fan of the lamps we were having to use. We use the living room to study, so we decided to embark on a journey to install a light.

So we went to World Market…

Before- The empty ceiling

(You can see the light only exists in the corner)

After! Our beautiful burlap shade from World Market !

Baking: Pumpkin Cupcakes

24 Oct

I was feeling festive, so I decided to bake pumpkin spice cupcakes =)

I just used a spice cake mix, and added a can of pure pumpkin. Just follow the normal directions on the cake mix (it also called for 3 eggs, 1 1/3 cups of water, and 1/3 cup of vegetable oil). Bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes.

I used whipped cream cheese icing, and added a little bit of cinnamon into it.

Of course I put them in orange wrappers and added green gumdrops.

This is a cute and yummy dessert that makes 24+ cupcakes, for around $5 (without coupons and depending on what you already have in your kitchen).

Enjoy!

Couponing: RecycleBank

23 Oct

I always get lots of questions about couponing, and how I get so much random stuff in the mail for free. So I figured I would start a blog and share some of my secrets.

I’ll start with RecycleBank.

RecycleBank.com is a website with the purpose of educating people and encouraging to “go green” and live a more eco-friendly lifestyle. There are several activities on the website that allow you to earn points upon completion. These points can then be easily redeemed for rewards. I mostly take advantage of the coupon rewards and the free magazine subscriptions.

Most of their coupons are high-value, and for product brands that you don’t normally find coupons for in the newspapers, like Coca-cola, Aveeno, and Kashi.

They also offer 1-year magazine subscription rewards that can be redeemed for around 150 points. This is a great way to cut down on unnecessary spending.

All you have to do is create an account, and start participating in the activities. They’re usually very simple, and just involve taking a quiz, making a pledge, or clicking the mouse a few times to earn your points.
